While younger students typically find books by simply browsing the shelves, older elementary students will learn to use the online database for searching. Glenwood utilizes Follett's Destiny program as our online database. It's available here.
Books in the Glenwood Library have been organized into six sections:
Easy/Picture Books - Indicated with an "E" on the spine label, shelved on the lower shelves
These books are typically enjoyed by students in Kindergarten through Second Grade, although sometimes the reading levels of these books are much higher. Some even refer to this section as "E" for everyone!
Elementary Fiction - Indicated with "F" or "FIC" on the spine label, shelved on the curved shelves
These books are typically enjoyed by children who can read independently and are ready for a more complex storyline than is found in picture books.
Elementary Non-Fiction - Indicated with "E" and numbers on the spine label, shelved on the lower shelves
It's not uncommon for pre-readers to enjoy non-fiction books just for the images! Students as old as fifth grade can find plenty of great informational text here.
Biographies - Indicated with "B" on the spine label, shelved on the curved shelves
From sports starts to famous scientists to historical figures, there's something in this section for every independent reader!
Young Adult Fiction - Indicated with "F" or "FIC" on the spine label, shelved along the northeast wall of the library
There's an entire of books dedicated to our avid readers who are at least in the upper elementary grades.
Young Adult Non-Fiction - Indicated with numbers on the spine label, shelved along the southeast wall of the library
Informational books with higher reading levels and more mature concepts are located in this section.Â
