Class Overview

Bienvenue à la classe de Français 1A!   In French 1A, we learn the basics of communicating in French: how to introduce yourself, how to introduce others, how to describe yourself, your friends and family, how to describe objects, how to tell time, how to count to 1000 and beyond!, and most importantly how to effectively communicate in a brand new language.

At the start of the school year, I’d like you to pick out a French name for yourself.  In Google Classroom I’ve posted a list of boy and girl names - feel free to choose whichever you prefer.  My classroom is a safe space and a non-judgment area.  We are free to express ourselves respectfully and also to make many mistakes.  Your online textbook provides additional names on pages 10 and 11 that are of North African origin.  Remember: Africa is home to more French speakers than any other continent. About 300 million people speak French.  French is the official language in 29 countries, which puts it in second place behind English.  In other words, we need to learn about and accept other cultures in order to truly understand the French language.
