NURSE NEWS

The goal of the School Health Office is to ensure that every student has a happy, healthy, school experience. Healthy children are able to learn; therefore, your child’s health is important to his/her success. One function of the certified school nurse is to strengthen the educational process through improvement and promotion of student health so children will be equipped with the skills to become lifelong learners. Some of the ways these goals are accomplished are:

1. Screenings

  • Vision in grades PK through 2; grades 3 and 5; and grades 8 and 10

  • Hearing in grades K through 3; and grades 7 and 11

  • Height, weight and Blood Pressure yearly, PK- 12

  • Scoliosis’ grades 5, 7, 9, and 11

2. Administration of Medication

3. Determining eligibility of student attendance due to illness and injury

4. Injury, illness assessments, and interventions, including first aid

5. Health counseling as needed

6. Education of school staff about health topics appropriate to the students' needs

7. Health education of the students regarding eating a healthy breakfast, getting a good night's sleep, and coming to school prepared to do one's best

The school nurse works closely with teachers, administrators, and support staff to ensure the overall well-being of both our students and staff.
