She was recognized with an honorable mention last night at Kean University’s Affiliate Aspirations Award Ceremony for the NJ Women-In-Computing Aspiration in Computing Award. She was celebrated among many other NJ High School women who aspire to continue in technology and computing for post-secondary education.

Amanda has been a lead programmer for the FTC First Robotics Club Autonomous Team for over three years. She has been able to apply her skills learned in the Computer Science courses to design programs for the robot to score points during the autonomous period. Through her self-paced learning, leadership and team work, Amanda has been able to use Java and MIT App Inventor to program the robot remotely using the new Bluetooth cell phones. She is currently learning new programs to control the robot for the next season.

We are proud of her accomplishments!

Competing against tens of thousands of students from across the country, the final winners of the contest from Glen Ridge High School are Kyra Costantino, Lila Sargent, Ryan Hirsch, & Stacy Bloomfield. These students wrote letters to authors who impacted them. Each student has received an Honorable Distinction and will be honored at an awards ceremony this May. This year, Glen Ridge Middle School students composed letters to a writer (living or deceased) who impacted them. These letters were entered in the Letters About Literature Contest hosted by the Library of Congress. Of the 1,500 letters received from New Jersey writers, 100 were chosen by judges in Washington to compete in a second round of voting. Of these 100, six are Glen Ridge students. The finalists (pictured to the right, standing left to right) are: 7th graders Lila Sargent, Stacy Bloomfield, and Ryan Hirsh and 8th graders Rachel Shepps, Alex Jordan, and Kyra Constantino!

Congratulations Middle School Writers! We now await to hear who among these 100 finalists will win after a second round of judging. This news should be announced in about two weeks.

Glen Ridge High School is one of 447 school districts in the U.S. and Canada being honored by the College Board with placement on the 8th Annual AP® District Honor Roll. To be included on the 8th Annual Honor Roll, Glen Ridge High School had to, since 2015, increase the number of students participating in AP while also increasing or maintaining the percentage of students earning AP Exam scores of 3 or higher. Reaching these goals shows that this district is successfully identifying motivated, academically prepared students who are ready for AP.

Helping more students learn at a higher level and earn higher AP scores is an objective of all members of the AP community, from AP teachers to district and school administrators to college professors. Many districts are experimenting with initiatives and strategies to see how they can expand access and improve student performance at the same time. Inclusion in the 8th Annual AP District Honor Roll is based on a review of three years of AP data, from 2015 to 2017, looking across 38 AP Exams, including world language and culture. The following criteria were used. Congratulations to all the educators and administrators who have worked to clear a path for more students of all backgrounds to participate and succeed in AP!

Congratulations to the Glen Ridge High School Girl's Soccer Team who won their sixth consecutive Sectional Championship and made their third consecutive trip to the Group 1 Finals. The team finished the season with a 15-4-1 record.
