AP Art/Honors Art
This studio art situation affords students the opportunity to develop their personal aesthetic as well as the preparation of a college level portfolio. Artistic growth is evidenced by a body of work which demonstrates a range of abilities (“breadth”) and a sequential exploration of an idea which has personal meaning to the student (“concentration”).
Ceramics
Students in Ceramics explore experiences in clay by hand-building and throwing on the potter’s wheel. They also learn various firing procedures, glazing techniques and methods of surface embellishment.
Digital Imaging
In Digital Imaging students utilize the Macintosh computer, graphic software, scanner and color printer to produce artwork, which draw from the elements and principles of design. PhotoShop, InDesign, Illustrator, and DreamWeaver are among the programs that students will use in the creation of their work. This class will allow students to make connections to the areas of Graphic Design and Photography as well as other courses in the art department.
Drawing & Design
Students are exposed to a variety of experiences in direct observation which are designed to increase visual awareness and creativity. Charcoal, felt marker, color pencil, oil pastels, and oil paint sticks may be used for assignments in such subject matter as still life, landscape, abstraction and non-objective design.
Graphic Design
In Graphic Design students learn the time honored craft of designing by hand while incorporating the current industry computer generated standards. Students will become proficient in the following programs: PhotoShop, InDesign, Illustrator, and in the advanced levels DreamWeaver. At the advanced levels students will produce a digital portfolio.
Painting
This course explores the use of color, technique, and various painting media as a means of visual expression.
