About the GBN Preschool

GBN Preschool is a high school laboratory preschool located within Glenbrook North High School. Our program gives Glenbrook North students the opportunity to observe and interact with preschool-aged students a part of their Child Development class. In addition to Mrs. Roer, high school students rotate throughout the day to assist.

Our program reflects how children learn and develop a multitude of skills in the areas of: literacy and language development, mathematical, logical and scientific thinking; social and emotional relationships; and through music and art. The program provides the preschool child with a great deal of individual attention, various stimulating materials, and exciting activities through experiences and friendship.

We have developed an enrichment component to the preschool program that has been beneficial to both our littlest Spartans as well as our high school students and staff. We have combined the many talents of our school community by working with various departments, i.e. math, science, choir, band, english and world languages.

WHAT WILL MY CHILD LEARN IN THE GBN PRESCHOOL?

Our curriculum is play-based with a focus on curricular areas and socialization. Along with the development of core academics such as reading, writing, science and math, we focus on the development of social skills and conflict resolution. We practice effective interpersonal problem solving techniques, like using our words, not our hands when upset and practicing effective positive communication.

Each year, the Preschool Teacher creates themes based on Kindergarten preparation, interest of the students and secular holidays. Each theme contains math, reading, writing, science, social studies and art as well as cooking activities that align with the Illinois Early learning Standards.

SPECIAL EVENTS

We go on several in-school and off campus field trips each school year. The Grove, Wagner Farm and Kohls Museum are a few of our favorites! We also invite guest speakers to visit our classroom, including, firefighters, police officers, the high school nurse, storytellers, and more!

The high school drama class always invites us to various plays throughout the school year as well. It is always fun to see some of our favorite fairy tales and classic childhood stories come to life.

Holidays are always special at the GBN Preschool too! From trick-or-treating, Thanksgiving Feast, and the Winter Music Assembly, to exchanging Valentines, we always have so much fun!

ENROLLMENT

All students must be 3 years old by September 1st of the enrolling school year and potty-trained. Our class is a mix of 3, 4 and 5 year old students. All enrollment is full-time. We do not offer part time enrollment. If you are looking for part time enrollment, Glenbrook South offers 3-4 half day programs.

SESSION

GBN Preschool is in session from 8:15 am-12:15 pm, Monday through Friday, September through May. We follow the high school calendar.

TUITION

Tuition is currently $900.00 per semester or $1800.00 annually.
