This course teaches growth and development from the prenatal stage through the school-aged years. Topics such as families, role of the parent/caregiver, pregnancy, childbirth and health and safety will be covered throughout the semester. The students will also work in the GBN Preschool as teacher assistants. They will have the opportunity to earn the ECE Level 1 Credential while enrolled in this course.
Ed Foundations is a course which exposes students to lesson planning and teaching within the GBN Lab Preschool. Ed Foundations experiences will focus on thoughtful lesson planning and implementation of lessons. Students will learn about developmentally appropriate practices, communicating with children, classroom management, and learning domains. Successful completion of this course will earn students Dual Credit in ECE 102 through Oakton Community College.
Advanced Ed Foundations is a course in which students build on their lesson planning and teaching within the GBN Lab Preschool. Students will focus on providing thoughtful curriculum for the students while assuring that the activities are developmentally appropriate.
Teaching Internship is the capstone course in our education program that provides juniors and seniors the opportunity to complete a semester of off-campus "teaching" experience. Students work in a classroom to further the study of education related careers and practice and expand their teaching/leadership skills in a K-8 setting. This course may be repeated with instructor approval.
Students must be able to make arrangements for transportation to off-campus sites.
Psychology for Living is an interactive discussion class that focuses on issues that may be affecting students currently or situations they may deal with in their futures. This class has guest speakers and films to help facilitate topics such as AIDS, sexually transmitted infections, depression and suicide, death and grief, Alzheimer's, as well as drugs and alcohol use and abuse.
