All About Sra. Xavier

Hi, I started my teaching career at Buttonball School in 1997, as a third grade teacher. I taught third grade for 13 years, then taught fifth grade for 3 years, followed by a return to third grade for 5 more years. Then I decided to go back to school to become a World Languages Teacher. I have been teaching grades 1, 3, 5 Spanish since 2020. I have a Bachelor's in Child Study, a Master's Degree in Elementary Education as well as a Masters plus 30. In addition, have a cross-endorsement for Spanish, K-12. I am biliterate in Portuguese (my first language), Spanish (which I learned in grades 6-12), and have a Minor in French. In addition, I enjoy learning Italian in my free time. I was both an English Language Learner, a Supportive Reading kid and once I hit fourth grade, was placed in the Gifted Program. I am a firm believer that one shouldn't give up their home language in order to learn English. I took Portuguese classes three evenings a week for six hours per week, for six years, while learning English. It served me and my own kids well. Yes, I had them do it too. Children can learn more than one language very well, with time and proper instruction. We are super fortunate to start World Languages in first grade in Glastonbury.
