Each student is assigned a high school counselor, and, as staffing allows, keeps that counselor throughout the four years of high school. Students meet individually with their counselors during the third marking period each year to select courses for the following school year. School counselors will help your child stay on track for graduation. Families should contact school counselors via ParentSquare or phone calls whenever they have concerns or questions.
A Glastonbury High School student must earn a minimum of 25 credits in the following areas as set by CT state legislature.

History/Social Science 3 credits*
Fine Arts 1 credit
Elective 1 credit**

Minimum Credit Load. Every student is required to enroll in and maintain a minimum number of six credits a year, unless special permission is granted by a principal or through the Planning and Placement Team for students with special needs.
Middle School Courses. Courses taken at the middle school may not be used to meet the minimum requirements for a diploma or any minimum credit requirement necessary to advance from one grade to the next.
Middle School Algebra and World Language. Algebra and world language taken at the middle school will be recorded on the student’s transcript with the year-end grade, but no high school credit will be granted. Although middle school credit for Algebra may not be counted in the total twenty- five (25) high school credits needed for graduation.
Early Graduation. Students who wish to complete the requirements of a diploma in fewer than four years of high school may do so by making special provisions with the principal to meet all the requirements for the diploma as listed above. Arrangements must be made prior to the end of June of the student’s sophomore year.
As set by the Board of Education, to graduate from Glastonbury High School, all students are required to meet three expectation sets with an overall score of mastery or proficiency for each set. Students will have the opportunity to meet expectation sets in each course, as measured by the school wide rubrics.
By the end of the second semester of junior year, if a student meets 60 percent mastery and/or proficiency in each expectation set, they will have met the requirements for graduation.
Students who have not met the requirements by the end of junior year will have the opportunity to meet the learning expectations in their senior year.

To become a sophomore, a student must have earned a minimum of 4 units of credit.
To become a junior, a student must have earned a minimum of 11 units of credit.
To become a senior, a student must be scheduled to meet all requirements for graduation.
*All students must earn 1/2 credit in Modern World History I and 1/2 credit in Modern World History II. They must also earn 1 credit in U.S. History (semester 1 and semester 2) and 1 credit in Civics/Current Issues.
**All students must successfully complete a 1/2 credit financial management and literacy course. The financial management and literacy course can count as a humanities, STEM, or general elective credit.
***All students must successfully complete 1 credit in a life science and 1 credit in a physical science.
****STEM electives could include additional math, science, agscience, business education, family consumer science, and technology education courses.
*****Mastery Experience is fulfilled upon the successful achievement of the GHS Learning Expectations and an 11th-grade English course by the end of the students’ senior year.
