Open Choice Student Welcome

Summer 2023:  Open Choice Families Warmly Welcomed

Glastonbury Public Schools recently extended a warm welcome to Hartford Open Choice families new to Nayaug School. The Welcoming Day event featured a light breakfast, a family bus tour of the Town of  Glastonbury, a tour of Nayaug School, classroom visits, a question and answer session, and time to talk with other Nayaug families. After a pizza lunch, the school principal, assistant principal, and the district's Director of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion handed out backpacks with school supplies and welcome gift bags to the new students and families.

Several of Glastonbury's Nayaug families (Glastonbury residents and Hartford residents) volunteered to serve as "community connectors" to build authentic relationships. They attended the event and began creating new friendships right away. Nayaug teachers and staff were also on hand to answer questions, lead tours of the building, and visit with students in the classroom.

Once again this year, the day was marked by excitement, positive energy, and high spirits.
