Effective assessment is a critical component of the Differentiated Literacy Instruction (DLI) program. Regular assessments allow us to identify students' strengths and areas for improvement, tailor instruction to meet individual needs, and track progress over time.
Pre-Test: All K-5 students should be assessed with the ORF or MAZE assessments within the first 30 days of their first attendance in the school year. For summer programs, the pre-test should be completed within the first 10 days of attendance.
Mid-Test: Conduct a mid-year assessment between December 1st and January 15th for K-5 students to monitor progress and adjust instruction as needed.
Post-Test: The post-test should be administered between May 1st and the end of the school year for K-5 students. For summer programs, the post-test should be completed within the last 10 days of the program .
Note: Girls Inc. has set deadlines within the required timeframe. See DLI Calendar for specific testing dates.
Utilize these benchmarks to assess whether DLI is necessary.
