We've answered some common questions to help you start planning your Fonomarae adventure!
We're currently gathering Expressions of Interest, with formal registrations opening in February 2027. More information will be added as plans are confirmed.
Fonomarae is Girls' Brigade New Zealand's national gathering, bringing together girls and leaders from across Aotearoa New Zealand and overseas.
It's an opportunity to make new friends, grow in faith, develop leadership skills, try exciting activities and create lasting memories.
Fonomarae 2028 will be extra special as we celebrate 100 years of Girls' Brigade in New Zealand!
Fonomarae is open to Girls' Brigade members aged 12–20 years, along with registered leaders.
We also welcome:
11-year-olds who have previously attended a camp (school, youth group or Girls' Brigade) for at least three nights, demonstrate independence and maturity, and are willing to try new experiences. Attendance must be agreed upon by their parents/caregivers and group leaders.
Young registered leaders aged 19–20, who may choose to attend either as a girl or as a leader.
International Attendees aged 15 years +, please contact your country contact person for further information.
All attendees must have the approval of their group leaders, and each Area/Group must ensure an appropriate ratio of leaders to girls.
Fonomarae 2028 will be held 8–14 January 2028, at Knox College in Dunedin, New Zealand.
Our theme is Grounded in Faith. Ready to Soar.
Through faith, friendship, adventure and new experiences, we'll encourage girls to grow in confidence, discover their potential and be ready to soar!
Get ready for a week of adventure, friendship, faith and fun!
We're planning an exciting programme combining outdoor adventures, exploring Dunedin and the beautiful Otago region, creative activities, worship, personal growth and opportunities to connect with Girls' Brigade members from around the world.
More details about activities and programme options will be shared as planning progresses.
Registration fees have been confirmed for girls, leaders and international participants.
Visit our Registration page for a breakdown of fees, payment instalments and due dates.
Please note that travel to and from Dunedin and any optional extras will be additional costs.
We'd love to have you join us!
If you're interested in attending, please let your local Girls' Brigade leader know.
Each Area/Group will coordinate Expressions of Interest from their girls and leaders, with a nominated contact person responsible for submitting the information to the Fonomarae organising team.
Expressions of Interest close on Friday, 11 December 2026, so please let your leader know you're interested well before this date.
Submitting an Expression of Interest helps us plan for Fonomarae but does not commit you to attending.
Formal registrations are planned to open in February 2027.
The first payment, which is a non-refundable deposit, will be due with registration by 31 March 2027.
Visit our Registration page for full payment details.
Yes! Fonomarae will be based at Knox College, a residential college in Dunedin. Accommodation and meals during the event are being arranged as part of the Fonomarae experience.
Further details will be available when registrations open.
We'd love to hear from you!
