A plan alone will not change practice. While this document provides a roadmap for GIPS’ work over the next five years, the district will need to establish a strong performance management system including a set of detailed action steps that we will take to travel towards our goal. We will also need to make sure that the district’s resources—people, time, and money—are all working in support of the plan. Additionally, we will need to regularly engage our community in a continuous improvement process to troubleshoot bumps and celebrate mile markers we reach along the way.
Within the school district of Grand Island:
Every student will be taught to read, write, and communicate effectively; solve problems; think critically; persist through adversity; acquire and apply knowledge; and demonstrate mastery through performance to the best of the student's abilities.
Every student will be considered as an individual and be provided with the supports needed to realize his or her own talents and goals.
Every student will be treated with fairness and dignity.
Every student will experience a sense of belonging, contribution, and success.
Every student will develop responsibility and show respect for others as well as oneself.
