I received Ph.D. in media education at the UCL Institute of Education. My main research interests include children and young people’s media and digital literacy practices in and out-of-school settings; teacher education and classroom practices for literacy and media literacy education; digital technology, media resources and textbooks for literacy and media literacy education, curriculum and policies for media and digital literacy; and digital parenting. I have recently directed research on Innovating classroom practices for media literacy education (Ministry of Education, 2015), Developing models of school textbook units for media literacy education (Ministry of Education, 2016), Systematizing news literacy education (the Korea Press Foundation, 2016) and Learning activities for media literacy, reading and drama education for elementary 5th and 6th graders (Ministry of Education, 2018). I have published in scholarly journals in South Korea and contributed chapters to The International Encyclopedia of Media Literacy (Wiley, 2019), Learning beyond the School: International perspectives on the schooled society (Routledge, 2019), New Media and Learning in the 21st Century (Springer, 2015), Media Education in Asia (Springer, 2009), and Mapping Media Education Policites in the World (2010).
