A comprehensive process to prepare students for career transition is in place. Students are given co-curricular and extra-curricular opportunities that support career goals. Students are supported and recognized by staff.
SkillsUSA Tactical Team
Each 9th grade student will complete the You Science Aptitude Test to help select the correct career pathway.
Each 11th-grade student has a follow-up meeting with the counseling department to ensure they are on track with their career path and graduation.
Students have achieved a 100% pass rate on the Criminal Investigations End of Pathway Assessment through NOCTI. This year we will begin to incorporate the End of Pathway Assessment for Application of Corrections. We also offer the NECI 911 Dispatch Certification starting the 2023-2023 school year.

Since becoming the SkillsUSA advisor in 2019, the SkillsUSA chapter has grown from no members to 55 members. Gilmer SkillsUSA has a strong leadership team, with elections held each April and leadership training taking place each summer. Gilmer SkillsUSA continues to be a Chapter of Distiction each year.

The Gilmer Public Safety Program has eight student placements at this time. The student internships are in the following areas:
· 1 Student at a funeral home
· 1 Student with the fire department
· 1 Student with EMS
· 1 Student with a local attorney
· 1 Student with the Superior Court
· 1 Student at the Detention Center
· 2 Students completing a Public Safety Rotation
The students completing the Public Safety Rotation will experience the following:
· 1 month with Gilmer Emergency Management
· 1 month with Gilmer Fire and EMS
· 1 month with the District Attorney's Office
· 1 Month with the Sheriff's Office
· 1 Month with Heitman International a local private security, private investigations, and drone service company.
Leslie Benitez interning with Logan Funeral focusing on the future goal of becoming a medical examiner.
Students have an opportunity to join the National Technical Honor Society and earn recognition at graduation.
Gilmer CTAE Facebook Recognition
Logan Aaron serves as the SkillsUSA Vice President this year, and this will be his fourth year as an officer. Logan has completed the Criminal Investigations and Public Safety Communications pathways. In past years, He has competed in First Aid and CPR as well as Electrical Construction Wiring. This year Logan will compete in the Tactical Response Team competition at the SkillsUSA State Leadership and Skills Conference.
Emily Moseley serves as the treasurer for SkillsUSA. This is her fourth year being a member of SkillsUSA. Of my four years, she has been an officer for three years, serving as a past president. She has completed the Criminal Investigations and Public Safety Communications pathway, and this year she will complete the Application of Corrections pathway. Emily has competed in Quiz Bowl, Trial Advocacy, and the Legal Knowledge Exam; in the Spring, she will compete in the Career Portfolio and Commercial Drone Operation competition at State. Emily is currently participating in an internship at the Gilmer County Detention Center, where she will move on to full-time employment after graduation.
Brenda Aguillon-Chavez has completed the Criminal Investigations and Public Safety Communications pathways and is currently completing the Application of Corrections pathway. Brenda is a valuable member of SkillsUSA that is always willing to help and brings an infectious smile everywhere she goes. Brenda will compete in Medical Math and Criminal Justice Quiz Bowl at the SkillsUSA State Leadership and Skills Conference this March.
Jaylynn Carlile has completed the Criminal Investigations pathway and is currently taking the Public Safety Communications and Application of Corrections pathways. Jaylynn competed in the Job Skills Demonstration Regional 1 competition to earn her way to the SkillsUSA State Leadership and Skills Conference, where she will demonstrate and explain methods of lifting latent fingerprints and classification.
Gladys Velasquez has completed the Criminal Investigations pathway and currently participating in the Public Safety Internship Rotation. During the rotation, Gladys will learn about emergency management, fire service, emergency medical, law enforcement, local courts, private security, and commercial drone operation. Gladys is a wonderful person with a bright future serving her community.
