The Public Safety program supports the school district's and the Gilmer College and Career Academy's mission by providing real-world experiences for every student who desires a future working in public safety. Students are exposed to many industry tours, guest speakers, internships, and work-based learning opportunities.
Program Goals
One Year
The immediate objective of the Gilmer County College and Career Academy LPSCS program is to expand the school's NECI Dispatch Program that began the 2022-2023 school year.
The second objective is to recruit more students for the Public Safety Intern Rotation Program, increasing the number of students from two a semester to four.
The third goal is to implement a communication network for graduating students to track better students that move on to Public Safety Careers or Post-Secondary education programs.
Three-Year
The three-year objective is to continue expanding the internship program with the Gilmer County Sheriff’s Office, Gilmer County Public Safety, and within the Applicachan Judicial Circuit from eighth to twenty students.
The second three-year objective is to complete the remodeling of the classroom to include a classroom door entry from the southern hallway, a classroom sink in the lab area, and a dishwasher installation.
The third three-year objective is to increase the number of students enrolling in the Technical College System of Georgia while utilizing the articulated credit from their Criminal Investigations Course.
Long-Term
The first long-term objective of the Gilmer College and Career Academy LPSCS program is a POST-Basic Jail Certification Program.
The second long-term objective of the Gilmer College and Career Academy LPSCS program and an NFPA 2400 Standard for Small Unmanned Aircraft Systems (sUAS) Used for Public Safety Operations – the section that certifies drone operation.
The third long-term objective of the Gilmer College and Career Academy LPSCS course is to add an additional instructor to the program to meet the growth and needs of the program.

Inventory
Plans for Replacing Consumables.
Inventory will be conducted in December and May to determine the supplies that need replenishment. The instructor will submit a request for budget items and replacement by August 1st of each calendar year. Minimum inventory requirements will be based on the GA Department of Education Inventory Spreadsheet.
