Local volunteering opportunities

Help out at Homework club once a week - Support younger students to complete their homework and mentor them in their studies.

Charity shop work - The charity shops rely on volunteers helping out. You may need to be over 13 years of age in order to volunteer. If they don't have space for you when you first apply perhaps try again in a few month. 

Henley Park run  - Volunteer to be a course marshal, token scanner, photographer etc. See the website.

True Food Co-op - Ethical food store, Caversham.  Link to Website. Run by volunteers.

Greenshoots, Rotherfield Peppard - Support at fundraisining events and in the gardens. Link to website

Thrive -  Centre in Reading. Volunteer in the centre and gardens supporting a wide range of people, those who have a physical or learning disability; people with mental health support needs; people who may have sensory loss or autism; people with age-related conditions such as dementia, heart problems, diabetes or stroke survivors and also young people who have social, emotional or behavioural difficulties.  Link to website

Wyfold Riding for the disabled - an independent charity that provides horse riding facilities for people with physical or mental disabilities located within the south Oxfordshire and Reading areas. Help out at the stables or fundraising.

Kissing it better - supporting older people - Whatever your talent, they need you to help make a difference. Can you sing? Create imaginative art projects? Give a relaxing hand massage? Or share stories in a way that makes older people feel special? Volunteering with KiB just might change your life. Link to website

Zooniverse, ZSL Instantwild - citizen science projects - help scientists and organisations with tasks to complete projects eg identify images in photos, transcribing handwritten documents to online resources.  Remember to take screen shots to upload as evidence of your work to show your assessor.

Litter picking - Litter picking in the local area. You must seek out areas that need clearing to make a difference. Take before and after pictures, record your route on an app and cover different areas each week. Upload screenshots and pictures of the litter collected as evidence each week.

For example,  help the Red Cross map difficult to reach communities  around the world.
