Job Title: County Reading Coordinator
Overview: The County Reading Coordinator plays a crucial role in supporting the implementation of evidence-based literacy instruction and improving reading outcomes for students as mandated by the Virginia Literacy Act (VLA). This position requires expertise in literacy instruction, assessment, and intervention strategies to address the diverse needs of students across grade levels. The County Reading Coordinator collaborates with educators, administrators, and families to promote literacy development and ensure all students receive high-quality reading instruction.
Responsibilities:
Monitors Reading Specialist :
Oversees the delivery of evidence-based reading instruction to students identified as needing additional support in reading proficiency.
Evaluates the diagnostic assessments administered to identify students' literacy needs and develop individualized intervention plans.
Oversees the Implementation of targeted interventions to improve students' reading skills, including phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension.
Professional Development:
Provide professional development sessions for teachers on evidence-based literacy practices, including phonemic awareness, phonics instruction, vocabulary development, and comprehension strategies.
Collaborate with educators to analyze student data and develop instructional plans to address areas of need.
Support teachers in implementing high-quality instructional materials and adapting instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners.
Data Analysis and Progress Monitoring:
Collect and analyze literacy assessment data to monitor student progress and inform instructional decision-making.
Use data to evaluate the effectiveness of literacy interventions and adjust instructional strategies as needed.
Develop student reading plans to communicate student growth and achievement to teachers, administrators, and families.
Collaboration and Consultation:
Collaborate with classroom teachers, special education staff, and other stakeholders to develop literacy goals and strategies for students with diverse learning needs.
Consult with parents and caregivers to provide guidance on supporting literacy development at home and reinforcing classroom instruction.
Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings to discuss student progress, develop intervention plans, and coordinate support services.
Resource Development and Implementation:
Develop instructional materials, resources, and curriculum supplements to support literacy instruction across grade levels.
Facilitate the implementation of high-quality instructional materials recommended by the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) and provide ongoing support to educators in utilizing these resources effectively.
Stay informed about current research, trends, and best practices in literacy instruction and share knowledge with colleagues to inform instructional decision-making.
Qualifications:
Master's degree in Education, Reading Specialist certification, or related field.
Valid teaching license in the state of Virginia.
Demonstrated expertise in evidence-based literacy instruction and intervention strategies.
Experience in conducting literacy assessments, analyzing data, and developing intervention plans.
Strong communication, collaboration, and leadership skills.
Ability to work effectively with diverse student populations and collaborate with stakeholders to promote literacy achievement.
