Please read carefully. Some scholarships are open for everyone to apply and have no restrictions. Some require a certain GPA or major. When downloading the applications, also read carefully, as some will require essays, transcripts or letters of recommendations. Be sure to include all information or your application could be incomplete. If transcripts are required please obtain those through Parchment.
All scholarship applications should be turned in directly to Mrs. McMahan by 3:30 pm on May 5th , or postmarked no later than May 5, 2021, and mailed directly to the club sponsoring the scholarship if you are a virtual student (addresses available on this page). (1) ($250) PEMBROKE AMERICAN LEGION SCHOLARSHIP -Post 311/Pembroke - based on citizenship, contribution to school/community, achievement, potential for success & need.
(2) ($600) PEMBROKE RURITAN SCHOLARSHIP – available to students living in Pembroke. Based on citizenship, contribution to school/community, potential for success, need, achievement and volunteer services. Please provide a copy of your latest report card.
(3) ($300) GEA (Giles Education Assoc.) - Awarded to a senior who plans to become a teacher.
(4) ($500) GILES ATHLETIC BOOSTER CLUB - Giles Boosters
- must be planning to continue participation in competitive sports in college
(5) ($300) PEARISBURG JR. WOMANS CLUB - no restriction on course of study; open to male and female students.
(6) ($350) NARROWS JR. WOMANS CLUB - no restriction on course of study; open to male and female students.
(7) ($500) MARGARET MASON MUSIC (Pearisburg Woman’s Club) - awarded to a senior who plans to take at least 1 course in applied music in college
(8) ($500) GILES COUNTY FARM BUREAU SCHOLARSHIP - awarded to a student pursuing a degree in agriculture or natural resources; selection based on Career interest , Academic achievement, Extracurricular activities and work experience; Ag related leadership experience, and financial need. Transcript required.
(9) ($1000) PEMBROKE TELEPHONE COOPERATIVE - (2) scholarships will be awarded to students whose parent(s) are full-time residents in the 626 or 544 phone service area & have had a membership in good standing w/ the Cooperative more than 1 year; qualifications are: need, high achievement, leadership, activities; Children of PTC Employees and Directors are not eligible. Transcript required.
(10) ($500) NANOSONIC SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY - excelled in the field of science and technology; special consideration to students majoring in science or technology; financial need; essay required.
(11) ($500) SUSAN KIRKPATRICK MEMORIAL - no restriction on course of study; requires short essay; must have GPA of at least 3.5
(12) ($200) JOHN F. COX MEMORIAL - applicant must show academic excellence and community service; plan to pursue a career in the ministry, the teaching of Bible Principles, Counseling or simply have been a member of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) for the past 5 years. Transcript required.
(13) ($300) GRACE ROBERTSON (Alpha Delta Kappa) - awarded to a senior who plans to become a teacher.
(14) ($250) VFW - no restriction on course of study; consideration given if family member served in military; criteria: scholastic achievement, character, potential for success, need.
(15) ($250) LADIES AUXILIARY - no restriction on course of study; consideration given if family member served in military; criteria: scholastic achievement, character, potential for success, need.
(16) ($1000) CLASS OF 1972 - No restriction on course of study, however, desire to award a student in need, who has endured adversity & prevailed; student must display leadership qualities.
(17) ($TBA) PEARISBURG LIONS CLUB MONGLE MEMORIAL - awarded through provisions of a will to a "young man attending VA. Tech."
(18) ($500) PEARISBURG MERCHANTS ASSOCIATION - awarded to a sr. planning to major in business; 2nd priority computer science; selection criteria: character, academics, service, need, potential for success.
(19) ($500) PEARISBURG MOOSE LODGE
- awarded to a student with priorities being need and merit.
(20) ($500) PEARISBURG POLICE DEPARTMENT SCHOLARSHIP FUND
- priority given to student planning to major in Criminal Justice or Police Science; selection criteria: character, academics, need, town resident.
(21) ($1000) R.M. & E.H. INGRAM CHARITABLE TRUST - priority given to students with disabilities
(22) ($3000) PEARISBURG HIGH SCHOOL ALUMNI ASSOCIATION- selected based on financial need; requires transcript and 3 letters of recommendation; awarded to a senior pursuing a career in the Education or Medical field and special consideration given to those who plan to return to Giles Co. after completing their degree; student should have a 'B' average or above and be accepted by an accredited college/university. Transcript Required
(23) ($300) NEWPORT RURITAN SCHOLARSHIP - must reside in Newport; based on financial need, character, scholarship, academic promise and desire by the applicant for further education or training.
(24) ($1000) CELCO ACHIEVEMENT AWARD - Award for a NHS or GHS student, must have GPA of at least 3.5
(25) ($1000) CELCO MATH & SCIENCE SCHOLARSHIP - Award to be given to either a NHS OR a GHS student, must have GPA of at least 3.5.
(26) ($500) JACOB RAY ROE SCHOLARSHIP - applicant must have GPA of at least 3.5 or higher and be dedicated to continuing their education.
