Syllabus

Topics Studied in 6th Grade:

Math: Ratios and Proportional Relationships; Fractions, Decimals and Percents; Computing Multi-Digit Numbers; Multiply and Divide Fractions; Integers and the Coordinate Plane; Expressions; Equations; Functions and Inequalities; Area; Volume and Surface Area; Statistical Measures and Displays

Language Arts: Use text evidence to support inferences; determine themes and central ideas; determine author's point of view; describe story plots and explain how characters respond or change; compare and contrast different texts; provide a summary; analyze text structure

Social Studies: Social Studies content is viewed through a geographic and historical lens. Sixth grade students will understand the cultural, religious, economic and political systems of selected societies in the Eastern Hemisphere. These regions include the Middle East and North Africa, sub-Saharan Africa, Europe, Asia and Oceania.

Science: Units covered include Energy and the Solar System, Energy and the Ecosystems, Energy and the Environment, and Energy and Matter
