5th and 6th grade represent the last big departure from a Mesquite Elementary student's music class career.
5th graders have the opportunity to join Band with Dr. Sanchez or Strings with Mrs. Seagraves and I'm really excited for those students who choose to participate in our school's other music offerings.
I'm also very excited for those of you who chose to stay in General Music because 5th and 6th grade General Music is nothing like what your student has experienced so far.
5th and 6th graders in general music will learn instruments and participate in projects previously not available to them in k-4th grade such as:
Guitar
Ukulele
Drum set (yes, like rock n roll drum set)
Piano
digital beat making
songwriting

5th and 6th grade general music students at Mesquite have a lot of fun, but with lots of fun comes big responsibilities. students are expected to:
The expectations are high. Every week students complete a "self check" where they evaluate themselves on what they've learned that day and are able to tell me in the form if they need any help in the music we're learning from the teacher. The student's learning is guided, structured, yet flexible enough to be tailored to every student's musical needs.
Students bring their Chromebooks to music every week.Â
Students are graded based on the Arizona Music Standards such as applying criteria to evaluate work, reading basic music notation, and their progress on an instrument such as guitar.
There is never homework, however, students are expected to submit their classwork into Google Classroom by the posted due date.
