Movement Ideas

Below are several activities and resources to keep active. It is suggested that children move their bodies for a minimum of 60-minutes a day. This does not need to take place in a consecutive manner. Just make sure by the end of the day that your movement activities add up to 60-minutes.

The activities listed below are for suggestion and direction. Never forget the simplest ways to move throughout the day: take a walk around the block, play catch in the backyard, jump on a trampoline, or dance to your favorite music! During these unprecedented times, please make sure you are avoiding crowds at public spaces, like parks and hiking trails, and staying at least 6-feet away from others.

Take a walk

During this time I've been thinking a lot about how to create simple, effective, and sustainable exercise suggestions for families. Often times, the most effective and sustainable forms of movement are simple.

After a long day, the last thing you want to do for yourself, and your family, is an overly complicated exercise routine. Don't get me wrong, there is nothing inherently wrong with a complicated exercise routine. If you enjoy doing it, and have time for it, then do it! But, on the days where your thinking and decision making are maxed out, you need to get food on table, catch up a child on virtual learning, AND you want a little movement; LEAN INTO THE SIMPLE.

Walking is exercise! It is movement for all ages and abilities. Slow it down or speed it up based on what YOU need! At the end of the day, THE BEST MOVEMENT FOR YOU, is the movement that YOU DO! Keep it simple, keep on moving, and get the family involved.
