Honors Science 7th/8th, 11th STEM and Mysteries Legion

Hello and Welcome to GCA Science, Mr. Elowson's 7th and 8th grade classes!

I hope in these trying times that you and your family are safe and healthy, and that you are practicing the social distancing the news recommends. Speaking of social distancing, we are going to keep meeting our learning goals in an online, virtual classroom. I am spending the week learning how to implement our classroom plans and will have a schedule/learning objectives posted for both 7th and 8th grades by Monday. Additionally, a link will be included for webinars, so that all students can interact with me and their classmates. Information and class projects will also be posted on Google Classroom for each class period.

Thank you and I look forward to "seeing" all of you again soon!

GCA Remote Learning Handbook 2020

We understand that monitoring remote learning puts an additional burden on our families. For that reason, we are concentrating on delivering the most essential learning. Our teachers have created remote classes that are reliable, meaningful, and accessible to our students. Please be assured, our goal is to continue to deliver on our mission, to inspire excellence in every learner.

Schedule:

Classes will be held online Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday depending on the course.

Wednesdays will be school-wide office hours. Students may drop into the teacher’s WebEx rooms to ask questions or receive extra help.

Grading:

GPS District Policy: Grades for assignments at the 7-12 grade levels will only be used to improve a student’s grade.

GCA Academic Plan: Students will receive assignments and assessments for each course during the 4th quarter. The purpose of these are to enrich student learning in each subject and continue to broaden student understanding at a deeper level. Students should complete these assignments in order to receive improvement points in Infinite Campus. These points will not decrease a student’s 3rd quarter grade. Instead, these points will keep the grade the same, or, in some cases, increase a student’s semester grade. Blank spots for grades indicate the following:

  1. The assignment/assessment was not attempted or was incomplete.

  2. The assignment/assessment did not meet the assigned requirements.

  3. The assignment/assessment did not meet mastery and will decrease the grade.

Students should complete their work to the best of their abilities. In the case that there are concerns regarding the appropriate completion of an assignment, students should immediately reach out to the teacher in order to make appropriate adjustments.

General Online Meeting Guidelines:

WebEx meetings are for students only. Parent communication will continue to take place through emails and returned during non-class time.

Attire when online:

Students will wear their GCA polo shirt at all times when participating in a WebEx meeting.
