Battle of the Books is a competition where teams of students read five books from different genres and then compete against other teams.

How many people can be on a team? Teams can be between 3-5 students from any grade level.
How many books do I have to read for the Battle? There are five books total in the Battle of the Books. You do not have to read all five books however depending on your team size it is often recommended that you read at least two or three of the titles.
What type of books are in the Battle? The BOTB contains five books from a variety of genres: usually a graphic novel, historical fiction, nonfiction, and other possibilities including dystopia, mystery, realistic fiction, etc..
How often does the Battle of the Books meet? There is one informational meeting after school usually in January or February. There are two additional dates in March and April for the first and second rounds of the Battle. All events are after school in the middle school library.
How is the winning team decided? The cumulative total after two rounds of competition determines the championship team.
What happens to the winning team? The championship team goes on to represent VCMS in a regional competition at an area middle school in early May.
What is the competition format? The Battle of the Books uses an online quiz game format similar to Kahoot. Teams answer questions together, not as individuals.
Do I have to remember specific details in the books? All questions are in the format IWB ...(In Which Book?) Teams have to come up with the correct book title for the question asked.
