The GHS Scope and Sequence is modelled after two Structured Literacy programmes. Steps 1-8 follow the Phonics Plus Readers (with a few minor variations), and Steps 9-14 follow Liz Kane's The Code.
These programmes were chosen for practical reasons such as cost and availability. Both BSLA and The Code are designed for New Zealand students and are used widely throughout NZ.
Additional resources such as key concept posters, spelling lists, model text and slide presentations (Steps 9-14) have been developed to help teachers use the scope and sequence.
