At GHS we have thought carefully about our assessment schedule. We want to make informed, data-driven decisions without sacrificing valuable learning time.
We have carefully selected assessments that align with the science of learning, and the New Zealand Curriculum. When possible we have chosen an NZ-developed assessment (BSLA, eAsstle, The Code, iDeal, AFL). When the tool we need didn't exist we looked around the world to find the most reliable and valid measures.
GHS recommends using connected text formatively alongside HERO learning goals and DIBELS for a comprehensive view of student progress.
Learning Matters designed the iRSR to align with the New Zealand Curriculum (2023). Training resources for this curriculum are available on their website. Additionally, the University of Canterbury created the BSLA Connected text assessment as a formative assessment to track progress within the Phonics Plus Scope and Sequence.
Accuracy determines step levels: students work on fluency and comprehension within step levels.
< 85% Accuracy = Drop back
85-95% Accuracy= Working within
>95% Accuracy = Administer next level (when necessary)
