About Iowa ALN

Iowa ALN is a network for local school districts, partnering AEAs, and community partnerships. The goal of Iowa ALN is to provide resources and supports to schools that are interested in implementing authentic project and problem-based learning frameworks into their curriculum to provide students an alternative pathway to receive academic credit.

Cael Turner, Creston CAST Student

"Through the CAST program, I have gotten the opportunity to be a part of The Crossing. The Crossing is a student-run retail business. We partner with the Booster Club to sell their products, as well as creating products of our own to sell to the community. With this project, I have learned many social skills and group work strategies as much of my work is completed as collaborative projects with business professionals and my peers. I have been able to make many connections with community members to provide me with opportunities in the future. I have enjoyed the uniqueness of the learning opportunities within the CAST classroom- all projects are interactive and engaging with learning coming with trial and error within the projects themselves. This, to me, is much more beneficial because I love to just get to work, learn and figure out new things as I work.. Personally, I wish more classes included more of these learning styles in their classrooms."

"...Our authentic learning experiences connect our students to businesses in our community, model for them how our learning is applied within the skill or trade, and explore what careers embed these problem solving skills. "
