Scholarship Fund Background

George F. Walker (1926 - 1989)

George Walker was well known by most in the surveying, photogrammetry and engineering professions, and was great friend and benefactor to many. His concern for people, his professional attitude and his stature as a true gentleman was an inspiration.

George gave one hundred percent to the State and National organizations to which he belonged, both as a member and as an officer. In addition, his dedication to helping students and those seeking education in our professions has led the surveying and mapping professionals of Washington to honor his memory with the establishment of the George F. Walker Memorial Scholarship Award.

This award is presented to selected candidates who show outstanding academic and personal qualifications, and are pursuing a career in the surveying and mapping fields. This comes at a time when education is becoming an important part in the survival of our professions. The selection committee consists of representatives from the National Society of Professional Surveyors (NSPS), the American Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (ASPRS) and the Land Surveyors’ Association of Washington (LSAW).

This committee advertises to high schools, community colleges, vocational schools and universities that have an active surveying and mapping program. The committee then evaluates students for consideration of scholarship awards.
