A planning guide by Get Out! Events.
What does social wall mean in an event context? A social wall collects selected audience content, such as photos, short messages or posts, and shows it on a shared screen at the venue. Guests see their contributions appear in front of the room, which gives them a visible role in the programme and creates a running record of the day.
Buying one involves more than picking an attractive screen template. You need to decide how content gets in, what is allowed on screen, how quickly it appears and what happens if the network or a social platform stops cooperating.
Many organisers assume a social wall must use a public hashtag. In practice, a private event social media wall that takes submissions through a mobile web page is often simpler and safer, especially for internal events where staff may not want to post publicly. Some events combine both routes.
Encouraging photo sharing at a brand activation or roadshow.
Collecting reactions and questions during a conference.
Supporting a campaign hashtag.
Building a visual record of a staff celebration or community event.
Content Routes compares public, direct and hybrid submissions. Moderation explains how to keep the screen safe. Running the Wall covers display, testing, privacy and fallback.
Get Out! Events plans social walls within wider event delivery, with GO Labs scoping technical components. See its event social media wall page for an overview.
