Therapy in itself is a very daunting task. It’s hard to come face to face with a lot of our thoughts, especially if they’re distressing. And you must be wondering if therapy can be hard enough, wouldn’t homework make it much more difficult? Fortunately, doing some homework can help us have some breakthroughs in terms of behavior and reframing some thoughts to look at a situation in a light where you can do something about it or other helpful ideas that you can work with.
With CBT or Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, therapists often assign homework to the clients so that they can ruminate over what was discussed in the one-hour session. The idea is that the therapist and you work together to make sure that whatever dysregulates you today, will not dysregulate you tomorrow; as well as giving you good coping skills for the future.
