I accidentally skipped over lesson 9 yesterday so we will back track a little today. Practice your multiplication memory by practicing on page 339 using a pencil to cover up the answers as you work your way down the page.

Turn to page 343. Do you see any patterns as you look at the multiples of 11 and 12? You can use multiplication that you already know to help you. Study the problems at the side of the page. That will help you see how.

Fill in the rest of the multiplication table. Homework page 239 for folder.

New Vocabulary: cable, environmental, renewable, converted, resources, and willing. Write these words in your notebook. If you are unsure of a meaning of a word, look it up and write down a definition or sentence to help you remember.

Next you will read a narrative nonficton text called Energy Island. When you read nonfiction texts, good readers make inferences to understand ideas that the author may not state directly. Authors assume that readers have some background knowledge or experience about a topic. Readers keep their own knowledge in mind as they read the text to find evidence that helps them infer ideas or details beyond what the author says. That is how readers make inference. Open your big book to page 144 and read the prompts and complete the question. Read Energy Island on pages 145-162.
