Teaching Philosophy

“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world” (Nelson Mandella). Educators have one of the most rewarding and influential jobs, for they are tasked with teaching and training all of the professions in the world. As leaders, we are agents of change and continuous improvement that promote academic success, well-being and share a mission, vision, and core values of high-quality education.

It is important that educators invest in themselves and their students by staying informed on the latest educational research and practices. Teachers should have the knowledge of what works best for their students. They should be able to differentiate and accommodate any task or assignment. They should be able to use and implement various forms of data, align to academic standards, and maximize authentic and differentiated practices that close educational gaps and better prepare students for the future.

As a leader and advocate, I believe that teachers must fight for equality by working together to ensure the academic success and well-being of ALL students. I believe that students should have the same opportunities. I strive for excellence and equality and work hard to promote an intellectually rigorous and coherent curriculum. I believe that ALL students have the right to an equal and rich education. I believe, “Every child can learn. Just not on the same day or in the same way. Many students have difficulty learning because they are not being taught in a way they can understand (George Evans). Like Paulo Freire, I also believe in the importance of teaching students to think critically. Instead of teachers acting as the depositor of knowledge and encouraging memorization, students must be taught how to think critically by making interpretations, making real-world connections, and learning how to be in control of their learning.

I believe in the importance of incorporating cultural and sustaining relevant pedagogy (Valenzuela, 2016). Creating a school culture that values and celebrates diversity cultivates equitable access, respect, high expectations, and eliminates many barriers. Teachers have the power to create a warm and welcoming environment in which students are able to maintain their language (Igoa), identity (Anzaldua), and culture (Au). It is crucial to value children’s funds of knowledge (Valdes, 1996). Children come from different backgrounds and cultures and come to school with much to offer. Teachers with this knowledge can use these experiences to motivate and facilitate learning. Educators have the potential to cultivate culturally inspiring learning environments (Valenzuela, 2016; He, Schultz, & Shubert, 2015).

It is important that the community and schools join forces to build and sustain strong relationships and help support continuous education improvement efforts. Teachers must see that they are liaisons between the school and their community. It is through this mitigation that we can ease some burdens so that students can surpass any obstacle and flourish academically. Families, teachers, parents, administrators, and policymakers must work together to develop sustaining and equitable practices in which all students have equal opportunities and can reach their highest potential (Siddle Walker, 1996).

Educators should be passionate about teaching and ready to face any challenge. When teachers love what they do, prove that they care about the students, form a partnership with parents, celebrate diversity, and are well-informed on the latest educational practices, these teachers have become influential leaders.

Filosofía de de mi Enseñanza

La educación es el arma más poderosa que puedes usar para cambiar el mundo” (Nelson Mandella). Los educadores tienen uno de los trabajos más gratificantes e influyentes, ya que tienen la tarea de enseñar y capacitar a todas las profesiones del mundo. Como líderes, somos agentes de cambio y mejora continua que promueven el éxito académico, el bienestar y compartimos una misión, visión y valores fundamentales de educación de alta calidad.

Es importante que los educadores inviertan en sí mismos y en sus estudiantes manteniéndose informados sobre las últimas investigaciones y prácticas educativas. Los maestros deben tener el conocimiento de lo que funciona mejor para sus estudiantes. Deben poder diferenciar y acomodar cualquier tarea o asignación. Deben poder usar e implementar diversas formas de datos, alinearse con los estándares académicos y maximizar las prácticas auténticas y diferenciadas que cierren las brechas académicas y preparen mejor a los estudiantes para el futuro.

Como líder y defensor, creo que los maestros deben luchar por la igualdad trabajando juntos para garantizar el éxito académico y el bienestar de TODOS los estudiantes. Creo que los estudiantes deberían tener las mismas oportunidades. Me esfuerzo por la excelencia y la igualdad y trabajo duro para promover un plan de estudios intelectualmente riguroso y coherente. Creo que TODOS los estudiantes tienen derecho a una educación igualitaria y rica. Creo que “Todos los niños pueden aprender. Pero no el mismo día ni de la misma forma. Muchos estudiantes tienen dificultades para aprender porque no se les enseña de una manera que puedan entender (George Evans). Como Paulo Freire, también creo en la importancia de enseñar a los estudiantes a pensar críticamente. En lugar de que los maestros actúen como depositarios de conocimiento y fomenten la memorización, los estudiantes deben aprender a pensar críticamente haciendo interpretaciones, haciendo conexiones con el mundo real y aprendiendo a tener el control de su propio aprendizaje.

Creo en la importancia de incorporar la pedagogía cultural y sustentarla relevante (Valenzuela, 2016). Crear una cultura escolar que valore y celebre la diversidad cultiva el acceso equitativo, el respeto, las altas expectativas y elimina muchas barreras. Los profesores tienen el poder de crear un ambiente cálido y acogedor en el que los estudiantes puedan mantener su identidad lingüística (Igoa) (Anzaldua) y su cultura (Au). Es importante valorar los fondos de conocimiento de los niños (Valdés, 1996). Los niños provienen de diferentes orígenes y culturas que vienen a la escuela con mucho que ofrecer. Los profesores con este conocimiento pueden utilizar estas experiencias para motivar y facilitar el aprendizaje. Los educadores tienen el potencial de cultivar entornos de aprendizaje culturalmente inspiradores (Valenzuela; 2016; He, Schultz y Shubert, 2015).

Es importante que la comunidad y las escuelas unan fuerzas para construir y mantener

relaciones poderosas y ayudar a respaldar los esfuerzos de mejora continua de la educación. Los maestros deben poder ver que son enlaces entre la escuela y su comunidad. Es a través de esta mitigación que podemos aliviar algunas cargas para que los estudiantes puedan superar cualquier obstáculo y prosperar académicamente. Las familias, los maestros, los padres, los administradores y los legisladores deben trabajar juntos para desarrollar prácticas sostenibles y equitativas en las que todos los estudiantes tengan las mismas oportunidades y puedan alcanzar su máximo potencial (Siddle Walker, 1996).

Los educadores deben ser un apasionado de la enseñanza y estar preparados para afrontar cualquier desafío. Cuando un maestro ama lo que hace, demuestra que se preocupa por los estudiantes, forma una sociedad con los padres, celebra la diversidad y está bien informado sobre las últimas prácticas educativas, este maestro se ha convertido en un líder influyente.
