We believe the mental and emotional health of students is critical to their learning. Our students and their families have access to school counselors and school-based therapists during the school day as well as partnerships and resources for support outside the school day.
Trauma Informed Classrooms
We strive to understand the diverse backgrounds of every student entering our classrooms. When students with adverse childhood experiences (ACES) enter our classrooms, we meet students where they are educationally, emotionally, and developmentally. To support this effort, new-to-GISD staff are provided with Trauma Informed Classroom learning during their onboarding into the district. This overview is meant to highlight the affects of trauma on brain development, learning, and behavior in the classroom. Additionally, staff are provided with a summary of the TEA approved and evidence-based Trust-Based Relational Intervention (TBRI) as a model for supporting students who come from trauma.
Learner Profile
We believe in the importance of not just the cognitive and academic skills within the Learner Profile. Rather, our focus and belief rests in supporting and developing the whole child which include the intra and interpersonal traits as well. In GISD, our students continuously work to develop the following skills and attributes within our Learner Profile:
Cognitive Skills: Applies critical thinking, Creates & innovates, Obtains knowledge through inquiry and exploration
Intrapersonal Skills: Adapts and perseveres, develops self-knowledge and personal responsibility

Wagner's Counseling Services department includes our Professional School Counselors and our Licensed School Based Therapist. Each uniquely supports our campus and Counseling Services Mission and Vision. Together, we work within a multi-tiered system of support to individualize the needs for every student.
Wagner's school-based therapist is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who supports students promoting healthy social and emotional functioning within the Georgetown ISD community through school-based therapy, education, and collaboration. For more information, see the GISD School Based Therapy site.
The GISD Community Resource Guide exists to provide our community with information about local non-profit or low-cost services available to support a family's well-being. Georgetown ISD does not advocate or recommend any specific agency, program, or service. This information is supplied as a reference if you choose to use it. This list is assembled as a courtesy and is not a complete or comprehensive list of providers. For more information about how we can help you connect, please see the GISD Counseling Services Mental Health page.
Texas Education Code Sec 33.005 requires that Professional School Counselors in the State of Texas implement a comprehensive school counseling program that aligns to the Texas Model for Comprehensive School Counseling. Similar to how classroom teachers align their work to the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) that have been established for the State of Texas, the Professional School Counselor is provided with domains and competencies to align their work within the Texas Model. One domain that is established within the model is the "Personal Health and Safety" content area.
In order to address the competencies outlined in the Texas Model as well as the requirements of Senate Bill 9 from the 87th Texas Legislature (2021), the GISD Counseling Services Department has partnered with the Williamson County Child Advocacy Center to provide curriculum to students.
The Stay Safe! Anonymous Online Reporting System is a provision for GISD students or parents to anonymously report or notify school officials of incidents or actions that may pose danger to individuals or the school. Message topics may include bullying, cyber-bullying, family difficulties, self-harm, cutting, drug and alcohol abuse, student depression, harassment, weapon-related issues or abnormal student behavior.
School counselors and administrators will receive a copy of the completed online form and are responsible for following-up to the reported concern. To make a report for Wagner, click here.
Stay Safe! is not a 24-hour crisis hotline and will only be monitored during school days and school hours. In case of an issue requiring immediate assistance, reporters are directed to contact 911.
