Ingredients:
2 cup sugar
1/2 cup light corn syrup
1/2 cup boiling water
1/4 tsp cream of tartar
1/2 tsp cood coloring
1/2 tsp anise oil OR 1 1/2 tsp anise extract

Instructions:
Combine sugar, corn syrup, boiling water, and cream of tartar in a medium-heavy saucepan.
Boil the mixture until it spins a thread or reaches 200°F on a candy thermometer.
Remove from heat and stir in food coloring and anise oil.
Pour the mixture into a buttered 9x9-inch pan.
When partially hardened, cut into ¾-inch squares, or let harden fully and break into jagged pieces.
Optionally, roll the candy pieces in confectioner’s sugar before serving.1
