Dr. Kadan-Lottick's research seeks to optimize the health and well-being from diagnosis to end of life of those diagnosed with cancer. Current and future research efforts aim to incorporate health behavior, symptom management, and health delivery interventions as standard of care for every cancer patient at every stage of the cancer journey inclusive of every age, prognosis, racial/ethnicity identity, and social vulnerability.
StepByStep is a randomized control (Clinicaltrials.gov Identifier: NCT04089358) trial of 384 patients that investigates a multilevel distance-based physical activity intervention at over 100 participating Children’s Oncology Group Sites in the U.S. and Canada (Corresponding MPI Kadan-Lottick; funded by Beau Biden Moonshot Initiative, NCI U01CA246665)
This NIH-funded project (Clinicaltrials.gov Identifier: NCT05448560) is studying whether monitoring for late effects of cancer treatment with a survivor's primary care provider is at least as effective as using a survivorship clinic at the patient's cancer center.
Under the guidance of Dr. Tara Suntum, the purpose of the STAY WELL Survivorship Registry is to create a data repository of childhood and AYA cancer survivors treated at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital and Hackensack Meridian Health, both centers within the Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center (LCCC) consortium. This infrastructure will be a resource to measure outcomes in the survivor population and to recruit survivors into current and future non-therapeutic studies. Our hope is to learn information that will lead to potential interventions that improve the quality of life and health outcomes for survivors.
Current pilot projects in development include a communication tool that investigates the utility of sharing key oncology information with primary care providers of newly-diagnosed chidren with cancer and a qualitative study on physical activity preferences of children currently being treated for cancer.
