Heyden Observatory

Georgetown University

Join us for an event this October at the historic Heyden Observatory on campus, celebrating the life of one of Georgetown’s most prominent Jesuit astronomers, Father Francis J. Heyden, SJ. As head of the graduate and undergraduate astronomy departments, Father Heyden dedicated his life to education, service, and exploration during his time here from 1945 to 1972. On October 28 at 4pm, we will be celebrating the 30th anniversary of the dedication of Georgetown’s Heyden Observatory in his name. The event, hosted by the Georgetown University Astronomical Society, will feature building tours, a presentation on the history of the building and Georgetown astronomy, a panel of speakers who knew Father Heyden, and stargazing. The event is free and open to the public. Please direct questions to astronomicalsociety@georgetown.edu and RSVP at bit.ly/GUHeydenEvent. Accommodation requests related to disability should be made by October 14 to Grace Maglieri (gem56@georgetown.edu or 203-207-1239). A good faith effort will be made to fulfill requests made after October 14.
