Reflection: In this project I developed an instructional design process. This process emgered through an iterative cycle where I did user experience research, completed empathy mapping activities and product development techniques. The final product was a binder that was created to help refugee adults find some kind of stability in a time in their lives that everything is ambiguous and new.
Learning Analytics:
I have used the design thinking process in all of my projects. It is a structure that helps me define objectives and address challenges in an efficient manner. It is also allows me to adjust to the current needs of each project. I love that!
I have learned to start every project with a "How might we..." question. It makes the focus of the project clear. For example, in the Learning Analytics Student Engagement project I used a "How, might we.." question to help clarify the scope of the project. Thus, it helped me understand the needs of the project better.
The Hub Summer Institute: Graduate Assistant
In participating in the Summer Institute I used various design thinking practices. For example, in assisting in the creation of discussion sessions on the topic of the Urgency of Equity in Higher Education I did preparatory research, on the challenges of equity , diversity and inclusion in higher education. I also participated in co-creation with the team I was working with. It made developing the discussion sessions impactful because there were other minds at work. Additionally, I integrated "How might we..." questions for certain discussion questions. We also had design sprints meaning we had quick turn arounds to complete work. It was fun!
Overall, participating in the Summer Institute was an immersive experience where I learned how to let go of being perfect, open myself up for constructive feedback, and accept that no one person has all the answers, but together with the design thinking process we can bring about positive change.
