Vishal’s main research and teaching focus are sustainable operations, focusing on managerial challenges at the interface of business and the environment. His research interests and expertise extend across a variety of topics related to the role of businesses in addressing sustainability challenges such as circular economy, business model innovation, renewable energy, product development, supply chain sustainability, and consumer behavior.
His research helps firms identify when a proposed strategy is more profitable and environmentally superior, how to profitably implement such operational strategies, and how to respond to environmental legislation. His research has appeared in leading journals such as Management Science and M&SOM and has received several international awards. His research and results have been highlighted in white papers and reports by organizations such as the U.S. EPA, United Nations Environment Program, EU Parliament’s Committee on Environment, and the International Institute for Sustainable Development. sustainability. He is the Academic Director for the McDonough School of Business's Business of Sustainability Initiative, MBA Certificate on Sustainable Business, the Sustainable Business Fellows Program, and Co-Academic Director of the M.S. in Environment and Sustainability Management degree.
At the McDonough School of Business, Vishal teaches courses on Sustainable Operations and Business Models at all levels including executive education and custom programs. He has received several awards and recognition for his teaching as well, including the MBA Excellence in Teaching Award at McDonough School of Business and Poets and Quants Top 40 under 40 MBA Professor.
