Parent/Carer Information
The earlier you start to support your children with their career aspirations the better. We will help in school but the more you can do at home the better. As we know, getting fantastic qualifications is important but there is more to life and being successful than just getting qualifications. This is why we are keen to work with you to develop the employability skills and attributes that will set them up for life. Remember your experiences of preparing and searching for jobs and how confusing and difficult it can be....in an ever changing world, we need to give your children the "tools" to succeed in whatever walk of life they wish to follow.
How can you help?
- Use the school website to stay informed and attend events to support your children re. pathways and options etc...
- Use this Student Hub to access up-to-date information to help you better assist your child in their decision making.
- Talk to your children about a broad range of opportunities suited to their interests and ability, do they know what you actually do at work or what jobs involve?
- Know about and work on the "soft skills" or "employability skills" that will equip them to work with different people in different environments - look at our page on the employability framework for help.
- Remember, it is not just what they do in school but everything you encourage them to do that will support your child’s development of a stronger application.
- Take your children to work with you during the school holidays.
- Encourage them to volunteer for things (even supporting a neighbour or doing things in school/the local community will help) and get them involved with clubs etc.
If you have any questions ask...if we don't have the answers, we can find out between us.
