Over the next few months, classes will visit Expo 2020 to extend learning beyond the curriculum. Please ensure all medical records and permissions are updated with the school clinic to ensure all students can attend.
What is the role of the counselor? PYP counselors specialize in socio-emotional learning and wellbeing. Ms Carolina works with all students teaching both proactive and reactive strategies through lessons and assemblies.
Ms Carolina also supports individual students, families, and small groups on specific issues. Some examples might be: transitions and moving, growth and development, emotional regulation, relationship struggles and parenting advice.

This was the last week to offer remote learning. Any students requiring remote learning must be approved by KHDA/DHA to avoid strict penalties. The conditions shared have been:
A student has a medical condition which prevents them from accessing face-to-face learning. In this case, the student must provide a medical certificate from Dubai Health Authority, stating the reason they cannot attend school. I understand this is challenging to get with strict criteria.
A student is outside of the UAE and is unable to return due to international Covid restrictions. In this case, the student must provide a certificate from the relevant government authority as applicable and in advance.
A student has tested positive for Covid-19 or has been identified as a close contact of someone with Covid-19. In this case, the student must have the appropriate certificate from Dubai Health Authority.
Students have been sharing what they already know about communities. They sorted out people in their community and classified them as family, school or wider community. Thinking routines like this at the beginning of a unit of inquiry help to show where students need to get next in their understanding. We can see if there are any misconceptions that need to be addressed or if they're ready to take their inquiries deeper. It also gives students an opportunity to ask questions and share their interests in relation to the topic. This gives them some voice an ownership of their learning.
This week KG2 also reflected on their responsibilities at home. They applied their writing and drawing skills to represent their jobs at home. They are encouraged to reflect on their work throughout the writing process. The writers in these pictures are clearly very proud of the work they produced!
Email your child's homeroom teacher before 8am so that he / she can mark their absence as excused.
Complete an absence form for more than 2 days and submit to homeroom teacher on the child's first day back at school after absence.
Absence for more than 3 days requires doctors clearance (in some cases a medical certificate is requested )
Email the gis_primaryleaverequests@gemsedu.com and your child's homeroom teacher 48 hours in advance to ensure your child and their leave slip are prepared in advance.
At the time of collection, please come to the Primary Reception at Gate 4.
