Dear Parents,

Our school has started back at a fast pace: all our students are busy, with some taking MAP and PISA tests, and we have Grade 12s taking their crucial IB examinations, for which we wish them the very best of luck, after all their hard work.
I would like to thank Ms. Malin for organizing more university fairs at GIS. This is a chance for students from Grade 9 and above to have the visit the fairs, chat to universities of interest, ask about academic programs, career prospects, campus life, opportunities for work experience and study abroad.
I had a surprise visit to my office from three Primary School students yesterday, who represented GIS so well at GEMS New Millennium School for a Quran Recitation and Prophets’ Stories Competition. All our students, in competition against ten other schools, had to speak for three minutes fluently, even using props for the prophets’ stories. Well done to Kinda A (2A), Amir A (3A) and Ahmed MS (4C). In the photo below, you will also see the magnificent ark that Amir created for his prop.
On the sporting front, it was wonderful to host our first ever competitive cricket match yesterday! Our U15 boys were inspirational, and won by nine wickets against GEMS Founders (a school of 6000, so no shortage of players). I would like to commend Mr Sujay as coach, Zain S (7D) as captain and also ‘man of the match’, and all our players. I particularly enjoyed Rudy P (7D) bowling the first ball of the match, hitting the opponent’s wicket and thereby nabbing what is known in cricketing jargon as a ‘Golden Duck’! Great entertainment.
It has been a pleasure to see all our students back this week and so active, both in work and play. To continue the sporting terminology, the school is back in full swing, everyone is stepping up to the plate and on target for an excellent home stretch.
Kind regards,
Simon Herbert
This week we saw the return of all Teacher Led ECAs and squad sessions. On Monday our primary swim squad travelled to Hamdan Sports Complex where they competed against some of the top schools in Dubai and competed admirably in what was a wonderful event at an amazing facility.
On Tuesday our secondary swim team also travelled to Hamdan Sports Complex for the Dubai School Games Swim Championships. It was again a great experience for all of our students and a bonus to see some podium finishes from some of our squad members. Congratulations to Ms. Hadeel and all squad members.
On Thursday our U15 boys competed against Gems Founders in what was the school’s first ever competitive cricket fixture. The highlight of the game was when Grade 7D student took the first wicket with the first ball of the game. A special mention must go to Man of the Match Zain, Grade 7D.
first ever competitive cricket squad took on Gems Founders in their fixture of the year. Our boys performed very well!
Kindness Campaign
Last month, during the Kindness Campaign to celebrate the environment and Earth week, students participated in an Eco-art competition where they were asked to create art that incorporates recycled material and promotes environmental awareness. A grand total of 78 submissions of amazing artwork and the process of determining the winners was very difficult.
