Week Thirty Three - April 29th 2022
Dear Parents,
I hope that you are well.
It was a great pleasure to welcome our community to this year’s GIS Iftar on Monday evening. What a wonderful event it was, with tradition, quizzes, charitable elements, delicious food and even music from an Islamic Swahili band, thanks to GIS parent Mr. Mohamed Badawy. I would like to thank Ms. Noma and Ms. Rasha, our Heads of Islamic Studies in primary and secondary, for organizing this event so efficiently, and to Mr. Javier for being the host for the evening, which he managed so well in his inimitable style.
During the month of Ramadan, there has also been a food drive and I thank our Government Relations Executive, Ms Tasnim, and our Heads of Islamic, for their dedication to promoting this endeavour to students and parents.
In recent newsletters I have mentioned our school calendar for 2022-23, which is now approved by KHDA . I can confirm that the first day of the new term will be 29 August for new students (including all Grade 6) and 30 August for all other students. You will receive an email with the updated calendar from our PRE in due course.
The Council of International Schools survey should now be with you and I do hope that you will respond to it; CIS is one of our accreditation bodies and it is crucial that enough people respond to make the survey valid. Thank you in advance.
Our school now appears in the Which School Advisor lists as ranked 12th across the UAE, according to parental responses and feedback, so I thank you wholeheartedly for that. Word of mouth counts for so much and we have never had so many tours to conduct or visits from prospective families! This reflects so well on the work of our teachers, support staff, students, leadership and our supportive parents. Given the clamour for places, I do hope that you have re-enrolled your child to secure their place for next year. We can only offer so many places per year group.
Finally, I enjoyed sharing my birthday celebrations on Thursday. Twins Zain and Yassin E (5E and 5F respectively) arrived at my office to wish me a happy day and to let me know that we share a birthday! With Ms. Jincy (support staff) was also celebrating on the 28th, so we captured the moment in this photo.
GEMS International School Al-Khail wishes all the families celebrating EID Al-Fitr a happy & blessed EID!
Kind regards,
Simon Herbert
