Week Thirty Two - April 22th 2022
Dear Parents,
I hope that you are well.
Ramadan is a time for giving and for considering those less fortunate, so I would like to thank Mr Javier for helping to organize a very successful blood donation drive on Monday this week. Mr. Javier’s passion for this led to many others participating. As Mr Javier states, ‘PYP House Captains, the StuELT Service Committee and GISPA all collaborated to host our annual GIS blood drive. Forty-eight people gave blood, which is the highest number we have ever had: but more importantly, donors gave something far more significant - the gift of life.’
Friday 22nd is Earth Day and to reflect this, our PYP students took part in an Earth Day Poster Design initiated by Gems Education. In their posters they highlighted the importance of sustainability, expressed global issues and listed simple actions that can be taken to protect our Earth. Ms. Aranyani comments, ‘Their simple message to all of us is: Let’s nurture the nature!’ Very well done to all and in particular to Avishi S (5E) and Nazah F (5C) whose posters were selected to be sent to the GEMS Communications Team.
On the subject of creativity, I would like to highlight the example of one of our Grade 9 students, Malavika R, who has been inspired by her learning of English at GIS to create her own comic! This is now on sale within Indian territory from www.tigercomics.in. Very well done Malivika and good luck.
Finally, a message to all our super-organised parents, who are planning the summer break. Our school calendar for 2022-23 must be approved by KHDA and we shall share this in its entirety when we can, but we can say that the first day of school will be 29th August for our new students (and all those in Grade 6, therefore new to secondary), and 30th August for all others. I hope this information is useful.
Kind regards and have a good weekend,
Simon Herbert
