Week one - September 3rd 2020
Dear Parents,
What a thrill it has been this week to see students back in the school! We started by welcoming our new students on Sunday and were delighted to see how well they coped, even in masks and with social distancing. Our teachers, teaching assistants and school leaders were lined up and ready to welcome students and even escort the younger ones to their classrooms. I was so impressed by the care and attention shown, and I am grateful to the many parents who emailed me to say the same.
In the first photo, our Head of Security, Charles, is welcoming a new family. I would like to give a special thank you to all our security guards this week who have balanced a firm approach with the need to be approachable – not easy when new rules are in place. Charles and the team managed this with skill and diplomacy and we thank them for reflecting the GIS values so well.
It has been non-stop for staff since Sunday and with swift adjustments sometimes necessary, our teachers and assistant teachers have shown themselves to be agile and flexible, which is so important during times like these.
We have had visits from a KHDA inspector and also a guest from Dubai Municipality, and I am pleased to say that both these visits passed very smoothly. Our Government Relations Executive, Ms. Noor Ibrahim, and our Manager of School Operations, Mr. Menon deserve commendation for conducting these visits so efficiently.
Finally, I would like to thank parents for your understanding, support and constructive suggestions; we shall always reflect and work to hone our practice.
Kind regards,
Simon Herbert
Our Head of Security Mr. Charles Mutebi , welcoming our new families during Orientation Day - Sunday 30th September, 2020.
One of our new KG 1 students ready for his first week of school!
We have been delighted with the way that our community has adapted to the new pick up and drop off expectations. We have developed new habits swiftly and this has been largely due to our parents following our guidelines and being punctual at the beginning and end of the day; thank you!
Students should be picked up at the standard dismissal (2:30 or 2:40 - house dependent) OR the late dismissal at 3:30pm. It is not possible for us to manage pick up between these times. Families that are late for standard dismissal will be asked to wait until 3:30pm
NEW PROCEDURE!!!! - Very few families have required the late pick up so we have adjusted our protocols slightly to reduce the staffing pressures at late pick up. From Sunday - ALL late pick ups will take place from the main gate/reception and they will ALL take place at 3:30pm
