Week Three - September 16th 2021
Dear Parents,
I hope that you are well.
It has been such a pleasure meeting so many new children this term and also seeing the familiar faces from last year. On Wednesday I witnessed the excitement of our secondary students who enjoyed their first ‘outside break’ for over a year! We have had to wait for the pandemic regulations to ease a little and also the weather conditions this term to be suitable to allow for this. I have not seen such excitement around what used to be an ordinary school activity. The students at GIS have been so patient and it was wonderful to see their wellbeing improve through time spent with friends outside.
Wednesday was also an exciting day for our primary school children and staff. If you had been able to come into the school, you would have thought we had gone completely ‘dotty’! You would have been right - but this was all planned. Our dynamic primary librarian, Ms McLeod, prepared us to celebrate the wonderfully affirming book, ‘The Dot’, written by Peter H.Reynolds. The story is a heart-warming tale of fear turned into confidence, all depicted through a love of art and the care of a teacher who changes a child’s life. I do recommend it.
Former student (class of 2021) Tanvi D. also popped in to GIS this week to collect her certificate for the maximum 45 points out of 45. An outstanding achievement, it was a pleasure to see her and wish her well as she heads to Oxford University!
It was our privilege today, to welcome our GEMS Senior Vice-President (Treasury and School Operations), Mr Ganapathi Baht. Mr Baht is aware of how supportive our parents are and we were able to share recent testimonials from parents who had been thanked for their prompt payments. Mr Baht has also been instrumental in approving improvements to our facilities and it was a pleasure to be able to present to him on our latest plans, culture and strategy.
Finally, I hope that you will keep an eye out for a bus survey from Mr Ranjit and myself, which will be sent your way very soon. We really want to listen to our parents and all the information gathered will be most useful to us in our meeting with STS senior management very soon. It will be appreciated if you would take two minutes to complete this one. We shall send it on Friday.
With kind regards and have a very good weekend,
Simon Herbert
