Week Forteen- November 30th 2022
Dear Parents,
GIS celebrated UAE National Day on Monday and it was a wonderful event, full of colour, smiles, singing, dancing, speeches and teamwork. I would like to commend our student Masters of Ceremony, Mehdi A (Grade 12) and Hend A (Grade 10), for their accomplished speeches, and all our student singers and dancers. I am also most grateful to Emirati parent Ms Alyazia Alsuwaidi and her team for the huge preparations. Ms Raquel, Mr Harry, and our Facilities Team worked hard behind the scenes and it was a superb GIS community event. I enjoyed addressing the audience and am grateful to my ‘voice coach’, Mr Magid for his pronunciation guidance!
Our Treble Choir was also active in supporting National Day at Fakeeh University Hospital. In the words of Senior Manager Academic & Training Affairs, Ms Marlies from FUH, ‘The contribution of your students had an amazing impact. Our patients, visitors and staff were amazed by their talent and performance. It was an absolute delight to have them in our midst and a welcome change in the daily hustle of a hospital. Their performance made our patients forget for a moment their health condition, something what will positively influence their wellbeing.’
I would like to thank Ms Caroline for her sterling efforts in organising this and all the students who sang.
In our efforts to engage with parents and support learning, our teams have been providing ‘ConnectEds’ which serve to inform across a range of educational themes. The latest, on Wednesday, was focused on inclusion and diversity and I am grateful to Ms Hannah, our Head of Inclusion, for organizing and presenting, along with Ms Niamh and Ms Annalisa.
Finally, on Wednesday, I gave a speech of farewell to my assistant and loyal GIS staff member, Ms Shamah Atal. Those who know Ms Shamah will appreciate her dedication to GIS, her good humour, sunny personality, and generosity. I thank Ms Shamah for welcoming me to Dubai and GIS more over two and a half years ago. We wish Shamah the very best for her forthcoming wedding in New Zealand and know she will stay in touch.
I am delighted to let you know that following interviews of a strong field of applicants, Ms Rania (currently one of our excellent receptionists) will take on the role of Executive Assistant from Thursday 1st December. For your reference, Ms Rania’s email address is: o.drossinos_gis@gemsedu.com
Have a lovely weekend and look forward to welcoming all students back into school on Monday 5th December after the public holidays and weekend.
Kind regards,
Simon Herbert

With UAE National Day right around the corner, we are pleased to share a few pictures from GIS UAE National Day celebration on Monday.
During this celebration, GISPA were involved with face painting and henna. The children were so excited!
This year, we invited parents from our community to help. And wow, our community is filled with creative, artistic individuals. Each child left so happy and excited with UAE design.
Thank you so much to the lovely ladies who sacrificed time from their busy day to help us with such an important and BIG task.
We appreciate all your help and look forward to celebrating another event with you all ♥️
