Week Eight - October 27th, 2023
Kim Conlin
Head of Primary
Good afternoon parents,
We've had another great week in the PYP and are looking forward to some great upcoming events.
Next week we will have our annual student-council-organized Creepy Crawley dance, and we look forward to seeing all the creative costumes! Please be reminded that scary or violent costumes cannot be worn at school.
On Wednesday, we are excited to host a parent connectEd about Inquiry in the PYP. Hosted by our team of curriculum coordinators, this workshop is designed to learn more about the PYP framework and develop our community's understanding of inquiry for learning.
At the end of next week, we will celebrate UAE Flag Day by learning about the connotations of the colors in the UAE flag and inviting our Emirati students to raise the flag ceremoniously.
Lastly, if you have a child in Grades 1 - 5, their MAP Assessment Results have been uploaded to the GEMSConnect Parent Portal. If you have any questions about the report, please feel free to connect with your child's homeroom teacher or a member of our academic leadership team.

The purpose of the Connect Eds is to support our parent community with social, emotional and academics for their children.
We have a plethora of knowledge and expertise in our Primary School Team and they will provide practical information and strategies.
The parent community is an integral part of GIS and we feel it is important to make them part of our learning community.
We hope to see you many of you at the Connect Eds and closer to the time we will send you more information on the ConnectEds in our Newsletter.
In Grade 2 this week, the children celebrated the conclusion of their Unit of Inquiry with various team-building activities inspired by their central idea: "People work together to establish rules and make decisions." Laughter filled the corridors and classrooms as parents joined their children in bringing our curriculum to life through various engaging learning experiences centered on communication within a team.
The children shared their Unit of Inquiry learning about teamwork and adeptly demonstrated the diverse strategies and abilities they have developed throughout their unit. It was a wonderful celebration of learning, where parents and children worked together to conquer challenges through cooperation, effective delegation, and employing successful team strategies.
We're pleased to report that we had an outstanding turnout for this event, highlighting the strong support of our school community for our young learners. Throughout the year, we hope you look forward to being invited to your child's class for similar celebrations at GIS.
Parents have all received a notification to sign up for the Toddle platform. This is an exciting enhancement to our parent communication, and this year you will receive weekly updates through the Toddle platform.
This IB affiliated platform will offer opportunities for parents to remain up to date with their child's academic progress.
The below class pages will host resources for parents and will no longer have weekly messages. All information will be sent through Toddle, so please inform your class teacher if you have any trouble registering.
