Week Six - October 7th 2022
Dear Parents,
This week Ms .Noma and Ms. Rasha, our Heads of Islamic Studies, organized our celebration of the Prophet Muhammad’s Birthday, or Mawlid un Nabi. It was a beautiful event, with music, recitations, food, quizzes and most importantly, a chance for students to understand, within an international school context, how values such as service and tolerance, are timeless and relevant to all. I thank Ms. Noma, Ms. Rasha, their departments, and all the teachers and students involved.
Given the above event, it was all the more pleasing this week to congratulate three students for their excellent performances in a recent Quran and Islamic Project competition held at GEMS Modern Academy. Well done to Mohamed I (G3C), AmirAli H (G4B) and Talya S (G5A)! Here they are receiving their trophies in my office.
Our school doctor, Dr. Sanam, has been visiting outpatients! We want all our children to be healthy, happy and safe, and therefore Dr. Sanam has been visiting primary classrooms to give presentations and advice. Our students very much enjoyed the sessions and the chance to get to know Dr Sanam even better.
My thanks to our GISPA Executive Team for organizing Teacher Appreciation Day on Wednesday 5th October. Parents supplied a variety of tasty food for our teachers and this was very well received! It was so pleasing to see our teachers appreciated in this way. GIS teachers are known for their dedication, communication, collaboration and conscientiousness, always seeking to develop professionally, within an environment which we hope is dynamic and supportive. I would like to take this opportunity to thank them for all they do in the classroom and beyond.
Finally, despite a focus on teaching and learning, we continue to push for traffic solutions, as we know how this impacts wellbeing, and I have been listening to many parents. As I have said, the three Al Khail Principals and MSOs continue to place pressure on those in RTA, Emaar, and GEMS who can make a real difference. I am pleased to say that further change (in addition to the new exit road) is on the way and we shall be measuring the impact. You will soon be recieving a letter from Mr Ranjit. Please do read this as soon as you get a chance, as it explains there will be an alteration of traffic flow. There will no longer (from Monday 10th October) be any traffic coming from the WEK central lane back to the entry roundabout. This will benefit all of us. When all three schools are back from the midterm break, we shall be able to assess fully.
Have a good weekend.
Kind regards,
Simon Herbert

A big thank you to all our parents and students for making World Teacher Appreciation Day such an awesome day! The teachers were overwhelmed with so much love and appreciation. None of this would have been possible without all of you! Thank you teachers for everything you do! What an amazing community we have.
Last week we also had our first Annual General Meeting where we explained what GISPA is and does. Thank you for all who attended. We know some could not make it, and we are working on a way to share our information soon.
As our school continues to grow with more diversity, GISPA is in search of more Ambassador volunteers! Our ultimate goal is to have at least one representative for each country.
The ambassador program was launched last year with the intention of helping connect families with their mother-tongue and country. Small community sub- groups have been created to help integrate new families from these specific countries as they enroll at GIS. Although as a whole we are one big family, it’s always nice to connect with those from our country. Thus, the Country Ambassador program was created.
The requirements to be a Country Ambassador are simple. You must:
Represent your country
Speak native language
Have a drive to help others
Keep an on-going communication with families
Answer any question regarding GIS or UAE (as for many families, this is their first time in the UAE/GIS)
If you’re interested in representing your country or looking for more information if there is a representative for your country, please contact us at gispa@gemsisak.com.
