Week Five - September 27th, 2024
Dear Parents & Guardians,
Thank you to all parents who attended the online Week Without Walls presentations this week. Our providers shared some valuable information regarding each trip and many questions were answered. Registrations will open next week on Oct 3, and we, once again, encourage you to explore the many options on the GIS Week Without Walls site which will assist you in making a timely decision.
Also this week, Ms Sandy hosted a ConnectEd where the focus was on Service as Action in the MYP. Parents who attended gained some valuable insight into the importance of service in the eyes of the IB, how it links to service in the DP/CP and ultimately our Week Without Walls offerings. The presentation will be available shortly in the Parent ConnectEd tab, and I thank Ms Sandy for presenting and all parents who attended.
Linked to the topic of service, all of our Grade 11 students participated in a Level 1 Safeguarding training workshop yesterday. As DP and CP students, a requirement to pass the programme is to participate in CAS or Service Learning opportunities. Our students creatively establish various opportunities each year, many of them involving the need to work with younger students. Hence, as the wellbeing of all of our students a priority, it is vital that we offer safeguarding training to our students.
In connection with service, all of our Grade 11 students attended a Level 1 Safeguarding training workshop yesterday. As part of the DP and CP programmes, students are required to engage in CAS or Service Learning activities to successfully complete their studies. Each year, our students come up with creative service opportunities, many of which involve working with younger children. As a result, safeguarding training is crucial to prioritize the wellbeing of all our students.
Finally this week, we were thrilled to welcome our Grade 10 parents to campus for our annual Potluck event. It was a wonderful gathering where families had the chance to connect and celebrate. Our students were eager to introduce their parents to friends and share a variety of cultural dishes. We extend our heartfelt thanks to Miss Alisha, Mr Lewis and, Ms Irasaa, and the entire Grade 10 Homeroom team for making this event such a success!
Have a wonderful week ahead.
Kind regards
Ms Amanda
