Week Four - September 23rd 2022
Dear PYP Parents,
Today completes our fourth week of school. Students are well into their first unit of inquiry for the year. Ask them about their learning thus far, and also ask what questions and wonderings they still have. These conversations give you an insight into how your child thinks.
Some students will be taking part in beginning of year MAP assessments this week in the areas of math, reading language and/or science. There is no specific preparation for MAP assessments. Please ensure your child gets a good night sleep and a good breakfast everyday.
You will receive an email next week to sign up for parent teacher conferences on Oct 6th and 7th. These conferences will take place on campus and will include homeroom and single subject teachers. An option will be provided for a virtual conference should it be required (homeroom teacher conference only).
Please join us Wednesday morning (28th) to learn about our approach to behavior and discipline at GIS. This session will be a combination of approaches at school and tips for managing behavior at home.
Week Without Walls trips for grades 3-5 are coming up in November. Please visit class pages for more details and keep your eye on the deadline, October 7th.
I trust that everyone has fallen back into their school routines and ready for the cooler outdoor weather that will inevitably come in October. Enjoy your weekend and see you all on Monday.
Ms Kim Conlin

This week our KG2 learners have been inquiring into communities. Through their art integration they did an environment walk and created observational drawings of the different places in our school that make up the GIS community.
